the details

the challenge where everything is made up and the points don’t matter

what is the summer challenge?

long story short, there is a map of lesser-known waypoints for you to navigate to this summer to accumulate “points”. most points wins nothing.

the cost.

participation in the BushwhackUphill Summer Challenge is free. simply complete the signup process to create your account and then connect to Strava. we will handle the rest.

the waypoints.

nearly all of the waypoints are on official trails. they vary in difficulty. as long as you are a semi-experienced trail runner / power hiker / backpacker, there will be something for you. if you navigate properly, almost everything is non-technical, involving no exposure or scrambling. have a location we missed? feel free to share it with us and we may add it to the challenge.

the regions.

waypoints will all be within the canadian rockies. expect to cover kananaskis, banff national park, yoho national park, kootenay national park, jasper national park, and many pluz/wilderness areas on the surrounding slopes.

the timeline.

the challenge will run from June 30 to October 9. routes must be started within this time. all eligible Strava activities must be uploaded by midnight on October 12. results will then be finalized.

the points.

each waypoint is worth a set number of points. get to the waypoint, get the points. you can only trigger each waypoint once. there will be bonus points sprinkled in. remember, don’t sacrifice your safety for fake internet points.

the style.

the time it takes to complete a route doesn’t matter at all. bring a tent and do it over several days if you want. just get out there and have fun. take a seat, have a picnic, stare at some flowers, skinny dip, go on a side quest, etc.

the registration.

visit the app to start the signup process. all you need to do is create an account and then connect it your Strava.

the organization.

management and organization of the challenge is all done in our spare time with limited capacity. please bear with us if it takes longer than expected to assist you.

the community.

utilize the facebook group to look for partners, ask questions, share beta/photos/videos, or seek external validation. also stay tuned for several events to share your stories from the trails.

the bonus points.

the overall goal of this project is to build awareness and increase usage of lesser-known routes. bonus points will sporadically be awarded for opening up new routes, sharing beta, and tagging BushwhackUphill in your posts/stories on social media.

the risk.

travel in the mountains can have some serious risks, especially in remote regions. while we will try to provide beta and route descriptions to point you in the right direction, this challenge is entirely self-supported. by choosing to participate, you accept the sole responsibility for your own safety.

the affiliation.

BushwhackUphill is in no way affiliated with SkiUphill/RunUphill. they are incredible people and we love them dearly. this challenge pays homage to their efforts in the community while adding our own sarcastic and miserable twists.
